IC 1805 - Heart Nebula

IC 1805 is a large emission nebula in Cassiopeia that glows strongly at the H-alpha wavelength of 656.3 nanometers due to hydrogen gas that has been heated and ionized by numerous hot, young stars buried inside and often shrouded by the thick carbon dust that encroaches from all sides. IC 1805 is around 7,500 light years away and more than 200 light years across, making it one of the larger nebula complexes known.
